Company Introduction and new "green” factory
Stone Sapphire (HK) Limited is a printing group with many
years' experience. Our offices and factories in Shanghai,
Hong Kong, Guangzhou and India ensure that we are
well-connected and one step ahead in the world’s top
manufacturing and sourcing locations. In addition to our
existing factories, we are excited to announce the opening of
our new factory, Shanghai's first “green” printing factory. Our
business is built on our guiding principles of low pricing and
customised printing. We always ensure that our customers
get what they want (see back page for a list of some of our
customers), and we guarantee that none of our costs are
passed to our customers, as we lead the development of
environmentally-friendly manufacturing in China.
Our strength lies in our flexible manufacturing capabilities,
and in our insistence on quality, reliability and consistency.
Our customers know they can count on us.
Ways in which we are “green”
|
Solar energy
Solar panels power the factory’s entire
lighting system,
and also much of the
other equipment and machinery.
Solar heaters provide our hot
water the year round. |
|
Special LED lights
We can save nearly 70% of the energy
consumption of traditional lighting. |
|
Light sensors are installed to cut
unnecessary light consumption
|
|
We have two roof gardens to
help keep building temperatures low,
and to minimise air-conditioning |
|
Own brand ink
Stone Sapphire exclusively uses its own brand
of environmentally-friendly ink which meets
American and European lead and safety
standards. However we are able to offer the
same cost to our customers as for regular ink,
because we purchase in mass volume.
We ship more than 4000 containers annually of paper product alone.
We never pass any "green" costs to our customers. |
|
Our products can be made from
100% recycled paper, at no extra cost
(For some products this may not be possible;
however we will use recycled paper when feasible.)
Stone Sapphire can provide certification to
prove this, and recognisable "recycled" logos
which can be printed on your product.
|
|
We have installed at the factory a massive tank to collect rain water
This water is put to use in the factory,
such as in the plumbing, and also planting
in the roof garden. |
Why have we done all this?
about being environmentally-friendly. The sun delivers
enough energy to the earth every hour to supply the earth’s
annual needs. Why aren’t more companies using this
fantastic resource? The set-up costs can be high, so these
initiatives require the commitment of a stable company.
Stone Sapphire has grown to the point that we are now
able to incorporate these ideas into our operations.
Our
own initial costs are higher, but we are attracting more and
more customers. How is this possible? Our customers want
to be a part of what we are doing, and - most importantly -
we do not pass any of these costs to our customers. Instead
our reputation and growing customer base cover our costs.
We have a long-term vision, and we are convinced that our
path is the only sustainable one. We are confident of
the
long term success of our factory. In turn, our customers can
market their products as environmentally-friendly.
Everybody wins!
Employee “green concept” awareness programme
We operate a training programme for new employees, to ensure
that they are learning transferable skills which can benefit their
Factory certification and audit
Our factory already meets the standard
international ISO 9001 certification, and
we expect soon to be awarded the ISO
1400 certification.

lives and communities. These
skills include awareness of
health and safety, good
hygiene practices, and not
being wasteful - eg turning
lights off when leaving a
room, not leaving unused
equipment on standby, and
not leaving taps running.
Plans for the future
We plan to install further solar panels, and also a windmill, at
our site which will further increase our reliance on renewable
energy. We also plan to introduce green concepts to our
existing factories, where possible.
The J.S. Rana Foundation
The foundation was established in 2003 by our CEO. For every
order that we receive, we give USD 100 to the foundation.
The foundation supports a home for the elderly, homeless and
disabled in Shanghai, and pays their medical fees. We have
housed 700 people since the foundation was set up. In addition,
in time of special national emergency, we donate money to
victims of natural disasters, such as the Sichuan earthquake in
2008. The foundation has also enabled more than 20 disabled
children in India to have successful operations.
Since the foundation was launched, Stone Sapphire has donated
more than USD 500,000 of our profits.
A word from our CEO and founder
Living a green life and operating a green business are my goals.
Many people claim to have these goals, but few are actually
doing anything to put them into effective operation. But the
best thing of all is that they are not prohibitive to doing
business. They offer large and long-term savings, both to us,
and to you, our customers. So let’s all feel good as we do good!

Main products produced in this factory
• Board books & padded cover board books
• Greetings cards & hand-crafted greetings cards
• Stationery
• Packaging
Equipment list
All our main machines are made in Germany and Japan, and some
are custom-made, such the ones on our fully-automated board
book line. These unique machines ensure that the boards will not
warp, and allow us to produce up to 2500 units per hour.
(A traditional hand-assembly line would require about 40 workers
to achieve this output.) Our automated line not only offers speed
and consistency, but also allows us to run the production line with
just 8 employees, thereby saving labour costs, and enabling us to
offer our customers even lower prices.
Factory certification and audit
Our factory already meets the standard
international ISO 9001 certification, and
we expect soon to be awarded the ISO
14000 certification.
